At My Little Cozmo, we care about kids, women and the planet, we call it Cozmo Care and it applies to our whole organization Our aim is for everything we do, to be done consciously and responsibly while reducing our ecological footprint.
We have a promise: to offer conscious kids’ fashion that feels right for our little ones and for the cozmo around us. We want to make clothes that care for both women and planet through the whole process, from design and manufacturing to wear and afterwards to recycling.
We love to work with organic fibers and our share of sustainability-labelled clothes is increasing constantly.
However, we, together with the whole textile industry, have big challenges in front of us: consumption of electricity and water, the use of pesticides and other chemicals, the current fast fashion consumption (clothing underutilization and the poor awareness of recycling) and the lack of diversity among others.
We know there is a long way to go before the kid’s fashion industry is conscious and sustainable, and at My Little Cozmo, we yet have to achieve our objectives too. But we are determined to take on the challenges and are convinced that things can change. We believe that the kid’s fashion future is brighter and more responsible.
"I see children, all children, as humanity's most precious resource, because it will be to them that the care of the planet will always be left"
To go all the way in our global journey towards conscious kid’s fashion, we need your help and that you come along on this journey! For us your help is crucial in making the industry change in becoming more conscious and eco-friendlier.
So, what can you do? We believe in the reduce, reuse, repair and recycle principle. Buy clothes for your kid’s wisely, have in mind the 'made in tag label' of the clothing, take good care of them, use them often and for the longest time possible and when the moment comes, repair them if necessary and pass them on to another child. You can donate them to friends or family or give them recycling, for example. By doing that we can close the loop and create the circularity required for responsible fashion. Care for our kids and our cozmo. We are in this together!
SLASH NEW PLASTIC
There is now more than 5 trillion macro and micro pieces of plastic in our ocean and sadly every day around 8 million pieces of plastic makes their way into our oceans and all in all there are more than 8 billion tons of plastic on the planet. And once it is made it will never go away since plastic cannot biodegrade; it breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces.
We believe this must stop and therefore we have made an eco-friendly commitment which is to reduce all virgin plastic from our supply chain which includes our products, packaging, poly bags and office. The virgin plastic is mainly present in these areas: fabrics and packaging.
Currently 100% of our SS21 collection is made of natural fabrics and 63% is made of sustainable materials such as linen or organic cotton. We want to reduce our ecological footprint as much as possible and therefore we also reuse leftover fabrics from earlier collections. We are constantly increasing the use of sustainable and recycled fabrics in our collections.
In terms of packaging, we have changed our virgin plastic shipping bags used for stockists to recycled poly bags. We use unbleached card boxes, and our mailers are all made of recycled paper. All labels and cards are also made in recycled paper and tags in recycled plastic.
In our offices we have also implemented a recycling station.
We still have improvements pending but we are working continuously to develop and implement alternatives to completely take out the little virgin plastic we still use.
We strive to reduce our energy waste. That is why we have implemented energy-efficiency measures in our workshop. Our ambition is to create a healthy and safe workplace, limit environmental damage and reduce the emissions of green-house gases.
We believe in the future of alternative energy sources. As an example, our workshop uses a biomass heating system. Biomass is organic material that is burned to generate energy, this makes it a sustainable, renewable, and low-carbon option.
SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS & CERTIFICATIONS
Just as our female team visions life in general, our brand desires to focus on honest and natural materials that are no more, and no less than what they appear to be.
All our collections include eco-friendly and organic fabrics. We always try to select materials that have a lower impact on both nature and human health. Many of our fabrics are organic, recycled, upcycled and natural.
The main benefits of choosing natural and organic fibers are that they are breathable, insulators, hypoallergenic, naturally soft today and tomorrow and have a lower impact on our planet. The use of products made with natural fibers is a more responsible option because the industrial processes and energy that are needed to obtain the fabrics are more sustainable, ecological, and do not generate as much waste as the production processes of synthetic fibers. In addition, being free of toxic chemical residues, skin allergies are practically non-existent. We must bear in mind that babies and children have much more sensitive and delicate skin than adults.
The purchase of organic cotton also contributes to caring for the environment and fairer labor conditions. When producing organic cotton, pesticides, insecticides or aggressive or harmful chemicals are not used.
The advantages of buying garments made with organic cotton are several since it not only contributes to people’s health and well-being, but we also help to promote a fairer and more supportive market, we respect nature and contribute to maintaining a sustainable development, in general we create a better world.
The majority of our sustainably sourced materials are certified and verified by third-party standards.
Global Organic Textile Standard for organic materials
GOTS is known as the world's leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibers. Products certified with GOTS must contain a minimum of 70% of organic fibers and the standard requires environmental and social responsibility from the harvesting of the raw materials to manufacturing and labeling.
Global Recycled Standard for recycled materials
The Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is a standard for tracking and validating the content of recycled materials in a product. The standard looks at the full supply chain and focuses on traceability, environmental principles, social requirements, chemical content and labeling. The idea with GRS products is to support a circular economy and reduce waste by using it to make new products.
The Better Cotton Initiative for cotton
The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) exists to make global cotton production better in 3 different aspects, for the people who produce it, better for the planet it grows in and better for the industries future. The use of BCI shows commitment to more sustainable cotton production.
Oeko-Tex for safety & harmful substances in production
Oeko-Tex textiles and fabrics are certified free of harmful chemicals and are safe for humans to use. The certification refers to how the fabric is processed including dyes and finishes and guarantee that the clothes have been processed without harmful chemicals.
Our favorite sustainably sourced materials currently include:
Cotton sourced through BCI
Linen Recycled polyester
Recycled down (Upcycled Down™)
Recycled papers and cardboards (FSC-certified)
Materials we don’t use:
Conventional silk, feathers, fur, mohair, wool from mueled sheep, skins or indigo dye. Nor products originating from endangered forests.
Most of our labels, packages and marketing materials are recycled or biodegradable and we avoid bleached cardboard boxes. Additionally, we optimize our packaging and shipping boxes and use the minimal packing filler. We continuously work to improve and create new solutions for our packaging and labelling. We intend to implement a circular approach using less material, choosing recycled alternatives if possible and avoiding the use of plastic. We believe all packaging should be reusable and recyclable
WOMEN SUPPORTING WOMEN
Our brand was born in 2014 and founded by our designer Nuria. Over the years My Little Cozmo grew and in 2019 more women joined forces. Today My Little Cozmo is a universe composed of 12 women brought together by the belief of making the world a better and more conscious place. Creation, marketing, management, and manufacturing, it all comes to life by women.
From design to manufacturing our process is both conscious and local. We are proud to say that My Little Cozmo is exclusively made in Barcelona. All our garments are designed and crafted locally. Parts of our production is made in-house and the rest with local suppliers. This allow us to create jobs for local workers, keep manufacturing plants, control labor standards and have a better level of quality control. Local production further helps us to reduce our ecological footprint, minimize the waste disposal and achieve our sustainability goals.
From Barcelona with Love!
